I am Emma Thompson, a passionate home cook and food enthusiast from Asheville, North Carolina. I am 47 years old, and my love for cooking has grown from a personal need into a joyful mission to create wholesome, flavorful meals that nourish both body and soul.

My deeper dive into healthy cooking began in 2012 when a Celiac disease diagnosis changed the way I approached food. At first I was overwhelmed. After all, I was raised on Southern comfort staples like biscuits, cornbread, and Sunday pies. The idea of giving up familiar flavors felt daunting. But as I adjusted, I discovered something even more exciting. A whole world of ingredients and techniques allowed me to make dishes that were not only safe for me to eat but also deeply satisfying and delicious.
Over time my focus naturally expanded. I became curious about how food impacts overall well-being, not just in terms of avoiding gluten but also by incorporating nourishing ingredients, vibrant produce, and bold flavors into everything I make. Whether it is crafting a balanced grain bowl, experimenting with fermented vegetables, or perfecting a naturally sweetened dessert, my kitchen has become a place of joyful exploration.
In 2023 I launched my blog, Emma’s Recipes, to share what I have learned and what I am still learning with others who crave healthy meals that never sacrifice taste. While many of my recipes happen to be gluten free, the heart of my blog is about celebrating good food in all its forms. Bright, fresh, comforting, and sometimes a little indulgent. You will find everything from nourishing soups to irresistible pickled snacks, hearty mains to playful treats. Each one is designed to bring a little more goodness to your table.
At home I cook for my husband, our two kids, and our fluffy rescue dog Maple, who always hopes for a bite or two. My family has taught me that food is not just about nutrition. It is about love, creativity, and the joy of sharing something homemade.
I am not a professionally trained chef but I have the heart of one. Every kitchen mishap has been a lesson and every successful dish a triumph. Whether you are exploring a gluten free lifestyle, looking for ways to make your meals a little healthier, or simply love discovering new flavors, I hope you will find inspiration and encouragement here. Let us cook together and make every bite count.
